The Raiders jersey design incorporates artwork related to Reconciliation Public Holiday which took place Monday, June 1, 2020.
On Thursday, 14/09/2017, the ACT became Australia’s first jurisdiction to proclaim a Reconciliation Day holiday. A bill amending Australia’s Holidays Act was passed by the ACT Legislative Assembly. It was supported by tripartite. This public holiday is held annually to commemorate the anniversary of the 1967 Australian Referendum. It marks the start of National Reconciliation Week.
In an Australian referendum that took place 27 May 1967, two amendments to the Australian constitution regarding Indigenous Australians were passed by the Holt government. The amendments were unanimously approved by 90.77% of voters and carried in six States. The amendments amended sections 51(xxvi), 128, and included Aboriginal Australians into the determinations of the population. They gave the Federal parliament the authority to legislate for this particular racial group.
The 1962 amendments didn’t grant Aboriginal citizens voting rights. The amendments did not grant citizenship to Aboriginal citizens, as the most discriminatory federal or state laws had been repealed in 1967.
This Indigenous Jersey will be worn by Raiders NRL in Round 12 of 2020 NRL Season
