The jersey’s main section is bordered by 2 rivers, the Parramatta River and Georges River. Parramatta River is there to show respect to the Darug People. It was originally used by the Burramattagal People (a Clan in the Darug), as a food source and place to gather many clans.
Pemulwuy was a great Aboriginal Worrier. He was approximately 1750 years old when he was born. Pemulwuy derives his name from the Darug word meaning earth/clay. Pemulwuy was known for being a ‘cleverman’ and for fighting for the land and his people.
Pemulwuy led about 100 Aboriginal Warriors to attack Toongabbie’s government farms in 1797. This battle is known as the “Battle at Parramatta”. Pemulwuy died seven times in this battle. In a gesture of respect, the settlers took Pemulwuy to hospital. The yellow dots signify these brave warriors who fought both for the land, and against settlers.
The river runs alongside the Parramatta Eels players, which are represented by the aqua blue U shapes. They are the heroes of the game and support the community.
The jersey’s back features the Parramatta team. The bottom of the jersey features the Parramatta Club. This is where players and their families meet. The club is connected by the journey lines. These are the player’s connections back home. It is crucial to maintain their cultural connections and keep the family connected.
